Girl Powered El Paso 2018

Girl Powered

El Paso

The 3rd time hosting Girl Powered was a little trickier. Our school is still currently under construction, and we are fully aware this may lead to difficulties. However, we ultimately prevailed and went forward in fulfilling even greater achievements than the year prior. This time we had fund-raised enough to give each and every girl a custom Girl Powered shirt.

In both years there were over twenty booths presenting our Vex EDR and IQ robots as well as professional presenters from local business such as the El Paso Water Company, Latinitas, the Army Research Lab from White Sands Missile Range, NM, and the University of Texas in El Paso.

Together we strive to encourage students to step out of their comfort zone and become confident in achieving their dreams when others may believe they can’t.

Empowering young women to engage themselves in STEM fields is a priority—even if it’s a male-dominated field. In today’s technology-driven society, we wanted to inspire students to try robotics as we once were inspired ourselves. In hosting these Girl Powered events, we not only allow young girls to engage in STEM activities but also inspire them to challenge themselves academically and find interest in the STEM careers.
